Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Seminars & Workshops | Simplex Motus™
Seminars • Workshops • Clinics • Guest Instruction • Coaching Education
Bring Simplex Motus instruction to your academy, team, or training group through focused Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu seminars, workshops, clinics, and guest instruction.
Sessions can be built around technical development, positional problem-solving, competition preparation, Constraints-Led Approach training, coaching methodology, or the needs of your specific group.
Who These Sessions Are For
A Simplex Motus seminar is built for groups that want their students to understand what they are doing, not simply repeat it. The room matters more than the reputation of the technique.
- Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies
- Grappling schools
- Martial arts schools
- Competition teams
- Private training groups
- Coaches and instructors
- Clubs and organizations
Seminar Formats
Technical Seminar
A focused exploration of one technical or positional theme, taught from the underlying mechanics rather than a list of steps.
Workshop
A more interactive format built around guided problem-solving, constrained drills, and live application of the ideas as they are introduced.
Competition Clinic
Tactical preparation: scoring awareness, pacing, positional priorities, difficult positions, and decision-making inside a match.
Coaching Workshop
Built for instructors and coaches: teaching methodology, the Constraints-Led Approach, student development, and training design.
Private Team Session
Customized work for a smaller academy team or competition group, aimed at the specific problems that group keeps running into.
Possible Seminar Topics
These are areas a session can be built around. No seminar covers all of them. The useful version is narrow: one theme, examined properly, with enough live work that people leave able to use it.
- Positional control
- Escapes
- Guard development
- Passing
- Defensive decision-making
- Standing-to-ground transitions
- Pressure and connection
- Movement mechanics
- Competition strategy
- Constraints-Led Approach
- Coaching methodology
- Athlete development
- Purposeful live training
- Simplex Motus principles
- Practical grappling and self-defense
Sessions are customized. If your group has a recurring problem that is not on this list, that problem is usually the better seminar.
The Simplex Motus Seminar Approach
Simplex Motus means simple movement. The teaching emphasis is on what makes a position work, so that students can rebuild it when the details fall apart against resistance.
- Understanding before memorization
- Principles before isolated techniques
- Position before submission
- Decision-making under resistance
- Adaptability over rigid sequences
- Live problem-solving inside the session
- Practical application that survives outside the seminar
The principles behind this are written out in full on the Simplex Motus principles page.
Constraints-Led Approach Workshops
Academies and coaches can request a session focused specifically on constraints-led training: how to shape a task so the skill shows up on its own, and how to tell whether the constraint is teaching what you think it is.
- The Constraints-Led Approach in plain language
- Ecological dynamics as a coaching lens
- Designing constraints that teach without lecturing
- Positional games and how to build them
- Live problem-solving
- Representative practice
- Coaching communication
- Letting athletes discover solutions that fit them
Coaching & Instructor Development
Some sessions are aimed at the coaching staff rather than the student body. The work is about how a class is built, how instruction lands, and how a room full of different bodies and histories can be taught without flattening them into one game.
- Lesson design
- Class structure
- Student development
- Individualizing instruction
- Constraints-led learning
- Technical communication
- Feedback that changes behavior
- Sparring design
- Athlete decision-making
- Creating useful training problems
What a Host Can Expect
- A conversation before the event about your goals and what your group needs
- A review of audience size, experience level, and ruleset context
- A seminar focus customized to that group rather than a fixed script
- A structured teaching plan with a clear through-line
- Question-and-answer time built into the session
- Live application or positional work where it fits the group and the format
Location, scheduling, travel, and format are discussed during the inquiry process. Inquiries are welcome from academies and training groups outside Modesto.

Seminar Questions
Who can host a Simplex Motus seminar?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academies, grappling and martial arts schools, competition teams, coaching staffs, clubs, and private training groups.
Can the seminar be customized?
Yes. That is the default. The topic, depth, and format are built around the experience level and goals of the hosting group.
Do you teach beginners or advanced students?
Both. Sessions can be pitched at newer students, at experienced grapplers, or at a mixed room, as long as the mix is known ahead of time.
Can you work with competition teams?
Yes. Competition clinics focus on tactics, scoring awareness, pacing, difficult positions, and decision-making under resistance.
Do you offer coaching workshops?
Yes. Coaching and instructor workshops are aimed at the people responsible for other people's development rather than at the general student body.
Do you teach Constraints-Led Approach workshops?
Yes. A session can be devoted specifically to constraints-led training design, positional games, and representative practice.
How long is a seminar?
Format and duration can be customized depending on the goals and schedule of the host.
Do you travel?
